MikeyB's Monthly Movie Roundup: March (2017)

March has come and gone so it's time for my monthly roundup of the all the new releases I saw in the past month! It seems that Hollywood is starting the summer blockbuster season earlier every year and 2017 is no different. All four of the films I saw in March were big budget spectacles meant for the summer crowd with varying degrees of quality. So which ones did I like most? Well lets dive right in and find out!

Released: March 3 2017
Director: Mike Mangold
Starring: Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen

The final film for Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart in the X-Men cinematic universe is not only the best film in the series, it is one of the best comic book films ever made. If you have not seen this yet get off your butt and do so asap!

Released: March 10 2017
Director: Jordan Vogt-Roberts
Starring: Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson

I loved this new take on the classic King Kong mythos and wrote up a full review of it right here.

Released: March 17 2017
Director: Bill Condon
Starring: Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans

Disney remakes yet another of their classic animated films. I was never the biggest fan of the original 1991 Beauty and the Beast and I feel the same way about the remake: its a nice film with some catchy tunes but it was never my favorite. I have to say the though I absolutely love one of the new songs they've added to this version. It's called Evermore and has to be one of the best songs that Disney has produced in a very long time.

Released: March 31 2017
Director: Rupert Sanders
Starring: Scarlett Johansson, Pilou Asbaek, Takeshi Kitano

Another live action remake of an animated film. This time around it is of the 1995 Japanese anime movie Ghost in the Shell. Funnily enough I was never a huge fan of this films original version either. In stark contrast though to "Beast", I absolutely loved this remake. It's story is more cohesive then the original, the visuals are completely gorgeous, and the characters are more fleshed out and likable. I honestly left the theater surprised by how much I enjoyed this one.

Well that wraps it up for the films I saw in March. Did you see anything I didn't? Have a different opinion then I did? Please let me know and as always, thank you for reading and I'll see you next time!

  1. Ooh, I forgot that there was an X-Men movie coming out!! So excited for that. I've seen the previews for Ghost in the Shell and was wondering if it was going to be any good- I probably won't see it in theaters, but I'll definitely pick it up at Redbox!

  2. These reviews would be greatly improved if they were lengthier...I want to know why you liked what, and who, etc.
