MikeyB's Monthly Movie Roundup: February (2017)

Another month gone by, another movie roundup! February is a notoriously slow month for the movies and this one was no different seeing as I only found myself at the theater twice in those twenty eight days. Thankfully though both films were very enjoyable so lets dive right in!

Released: February 10 2017
Director: Chad Stahelski
Starring: Keanu Reeves, Riccardo Scamarico, Ian McShane

Stahelski and Reeves are back again with a sequel that is even better then the original. They build upon an already interesting world and knock it out of the park with action choreography that once again feels cohesive and fresh in an age of "shaky cam" action sequences. Simply one of the best pure action films ever made.

Released February 17 2017
Director: Gore Verbinski
Starring: Dane Dehaan, Jason Isaacs, Mia Goth

Gore Verbinski makes his first return to the horror genre since 2002's "The Ring" with this hauntingly beautiful but flawed film. It has shades of Hitchcock, Kubrick, Lovecraft, and a dash of Gaston Leroux, and while these influences are very exciting it never really wows you. Despite this though I can say it seems to stay with you for quite a while, since days afterwards I found myself thinking about it. Definitely worth a watch for fans of the genre.

Well that wraps it up for the films I saw in February. Did you see anything I didn't? Have a different opinion then I did? Please let me know and as always, thank you for reading and I'll see you next time!
