MikeyB's Monthly Movie Roundup: September (2016) & October Plans Announcement

Okay its time again for my monthly roundup of all the new movies I saw in the past few weeks. Sadly September is usually a weak month for new releases with studios dumping the dregs of their summer releases in September and saving their big hitters for November/December. This year is no different as I found myself at the theater only twice this whole month. Luckily though both films were top notch and some exciting things are happening in October so stay tuned after the write ups for those announcements! So without further jibber jabber lets dive right in!

The Beatles: Eight Days a Week - The Touring Years
Released Sept 16 2016
Director: Ron Howard
Starring: John, Paul, George, Ringo

Great music, funny stories, and a nice peek into the hardest years for the worlds greatest rock band. If you're a fan this should be a no brainer and if you're not one this may change your mind. I highly recommend the eight part documentary The Beatles: Anthology if you want the whole Beatles story.

The Magnificent Seven
Released Sept 23 2016
Director: Antoine Fuqua
Starring: Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke

A remake that actually lives up to its predecessor! Its old school to the hilt and a whole lot of fun. The score is rousing, the action choreography is exciting and coherent, and the cast is all perfect with a great ensemble feel. If you liked the original or just westerns in general or even if you just like a good action movie, this one is definitely worth the ticket price.

Well that wraps it up for the new releases for September. Did you see anything I didn't? Differing opinion on something I said? Comment below and let me know. Now for a few announcements! As you may already know I love the horror genre and every October I have my own little marathon all month long. I try to fit in at least one movie a day so look forward to a weekly round up of of all the movies I watch each week! Also the perks of living so close to Vancouver B.C. are paying off again in the form of the yearly Vancouver International Film Festival! I will be seeing a small selection of the immense catalog of films they are showing and I plan to do a write up of my experience at the end of the month. So you loyal readers, all three of you, have much to look forward to in the coming month!
