MikeyB's Fall Movie Preview
Writer: MikeyB
Well its been a long time since Ive posted and Im trying to get back into the swing of things with a nice little preview of movies that are going to be coming out in the Fall months ahead of us. Keep in mind this won't be coverage of every movie to come out but just the ones Im looking forward to. Without further ado lets dive right in!
#1: No Escape
Release: Aug 26
Director: John Erick Dowdle
Starring: Owen Wilson, Pierce Brosnan, Lake Bell
Plot: A man (Wilson) moves his family overseas to start a new job but just as they start to settle in a coup is set in motion to overthrow the government. They must try to survive and escape in a world suddenly that has become hostile and even deadly to any outsider.
Opinion: Its been far too long since Owen Wilson has done anything action oriented but I've always thought he had a great everyman quality in those roles. Throw in Brosnan kicking some butt and I think this one looks like its gonna be fun and tense ride.
#2: Black Mass
Release: Sept 18
Director: Scott Cooper
Starring: Johnny Depp, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton
Plot: The insane true story of Boston's most notorious gangster Whitey Bulger, (Depp) and his manipulative alliance with the FBI.
Opinion: A lot of people seem to think that Depp has hit a bit of a rough patch in his career and that this movie will be a return to form. I never bought into the idea that he's in a slump, but I do agree that this movie looks phenomenal. Love him or hate him you have to agree he gives one hundred percent whenever he's on screen, and this looks no different.
#3: Crimson Peak
Release: Oct 16
Director: Guillermo del Toro
Starring: Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain
Polt: A young woman (Wasikowska) marries her childhood friend (Hiddleston) and moves into his ancestral home with him an his sister (Chastain). Soon things start to go bump in the night and everything is not what it seems.
Opinion: Guillermo del Toro finally returns to the horror genre just in time for Halloween. While I have to admit that the first time I saw the trailer online I was not impressed. I have subsequently seen the trailer on the big screen and finally felt like I understood and was excited to see the vision that del Toro has conjured.
#4: Spectre
Release: Nov 6
Director: Sam Mendes
Starring: Daniel Craig, Christoph Waltz, Monica Bellucci
Plot: Bond (Craig) sets out to uncover the truth behind the criminal organization "Spectre".
Opinion: With my favorite Bond actor returning and a possible "Waltz as Bloefeld", Spectre has me very excited indeed. That said, Ive never been shy about the fact that I wasn't the biggest fan of the last Bond film Skyfall. With Mendes returning to directing duties and the feel from the latest trailer it seems like I might have the same reaction to this latest edition of the franchise. I will of course have to reserve judgment until I see the finished product though.
Well that seems to wrap it up. Please tell in the comments how you feel about my picks and I hope you have a great Fall at the movies!
No Star Wars?
